What Might Be Coming

Have spent the week in New York with family, so the posts have backed up. Here are a few posts that have been started and might be coming to a computer near you in the next few days:

-- The meaning (or lack thereof) of hitting streaks.
-- Stats and stories.
-- Walking in New York
-- The iPad review
-- The worst number in baseball (hint: It's a big number)
-- Watching home improvement shows.
-- More on baseball and stamps
-- The only love song to a stranger I ever wrote
-- Baseball managers and winning
-- Twenty five years ago
-- The 14 best football players in the NFL
-- Big 10 and Big 12 math
-- Good God, man, you're Billy Beane!
-- The car wash near my home
-- The 14 greatest shooters in basketball history

As always, your votes are welcome in the comments. And as always, yeah, I probably will just write the ones I write.

  9. As a New Yorker, I'm always interested in what people from out of town think about the place. Chalk me up for walking in New York.

  10. Gotta have that iPad review. Also I'm betting that a post about the car wash will be gold.

  11. Joe, you forgot to list:

    - grass growing; and
    - paint drying.

If you wrote about either of those, I would read, and so would legions of your loyal followers.

But if I have to pick one on the list, it simply has to be: The only love song to a stranger I ever wrote. But you have to identify the stranger. Otherwise, I want to read about the car wash near your home.

  17. Hopefully any post on home improvement shows will include analysis honed withh the all-important "Value Over 'This Old House'" metric.

  18. Just write. I'm really not sure why I'm paying all this money. I feel like I should be getting at least three posts from you a day, seven days a week. You could write about anything in the world and I'm sure I'd find it interesting. Tell your family you're not going on any more vacations for a while because you need to start writing more. That's why we pay you the big bucks.

  19. I am all about an iPad review or 14 best players in the NFL

  20. ....I'm starting to worry that maybe you're just never going to do that iPad review, Joe. Every time you do one of these I get my hopes up, only for you to dash them. I'm wondering if maybe the whole thing is a big joke to you. and you're just playing with our emotions But I know you wouldn't lie to me. It's coming. I just have to keep the faith. Sorry I ever doubted you, and I can't wait to hear your thoughts!!!

  21. Is there any way I can campaign for a piece celebrating Frenchie's 200th career base on balls? Otherwise, it has to be:

    The car wash
    Stats and stories
    The love song
    Hitting streaks
    Managers and winning

  22. I know I agree on how meaningless hitting streaks are. In 1941, DiMaggio put together an amazing streak, no doubt about it, but Ted Williams put together one of the greatest and most memorable seasons ever ... and finished 2nd in the MVP voting for that effort. My math could be off a bit, but I looked this up a few years ago - DiMaggio hit .408 during his 56 game streak, which is very impressive - until you consider that Williams hit .406 over the entire 154 game season. One could, theoretically, go 1-4 or 1-5 in 57 consecutive games and break the record, but in context it really means little with regards to helping your team win.

  23. What's with the new fascination with the number fourteen (14)?

A post just about that would probably be better reading than much of the junk other bloggers submit on a daily basis.

  24. The ipad... I'm starting to feel that that post is just an urban legend... please give me a closing... I have pancreatic cancer and doctors gave me 3-6 months. Please.

  25. I'm still waiting for your review of the Apple IIe.

  26. How is it possible that you haven't written an opus on the Genie Bra?

  27. I think the iPad review is becoming the "Chinese Democracy" of JoePoz blog posts...

  28. As an A's fan, I'd like to hear about Billy Beane. I'm not sure the world is ready for the iPad review, yet.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Big 10 and Big 12, please.

    Please.

  30. You can skip the iPad review. I went ahead and bought one instead of continuing to wait for your review.

Here's my review: "Cool toy, but what will I use it for?"

  31. Joe, I may be alone. But I really, really want to read your "the car wash near my home" blog post.

  32. Seems like I've said this twenty times in various prior polls:

    iPad review!

I betcha I'll be saying it even once the next great gizmo is out.

  33. Woah, Richie, are you a Senior Writer for Sports Illustrated? Have you been named the best sports columnist in the country by the Associated Press multiple times? No? Well then I'm pretty sure no one cares about your iPad review. I want to hear it from the man himself. Until then, Apple's not getting any of my hard earned dollars.

  34. iPad review? Hahahahahaha! That's funny but you're not sucking me in again.

  35. Billy Beane. Has there ever been a time in baseball history where a man's accomplishments were going to be so roundly celebrated by popular culture (the movie) and at the same time that man is an embarassment to his own sport? What must Beane be thinking? Why has he seemingly done nothing in years? I think this would be a terrific post.

  36. the 14 greatest shooters in basketball history, please.
